PRIMER CUM WORKSHOP 2020-2021
Origo Quaesitio: Where Research begins…
The National Conference Committee conducted its first event ,primer cum workshop, Origo Quaesitio, for the academic year 2020-21 .The event was held through the online platform, Cisco Webex on 20th August at 3.00 pm. The purpose of the workshop was to bridge the gap between theory and practice and to provide students with a basic foundation of research skills as well as to acquaint them with the functioning and working of the National Conference Committee. The session witnessed the participation of over 300, first year law students along with the participation of other law students eager to improve their research skills.​​

The workshop included a one hour session by the expert resource person, Dr. Sangeetha Sriram on fundamentals of legal research and guidance pertaining to legal databases and engines which are crucial for carrying out research. The speaker, emphasized on the basics of research and used simplistic and basic examples to get her points across to the audience which was found as interesting and was appreciated immensely by the students. It was followed by a Q and A session where many enthusiastic first years put forth their doubts related to research. The event was also graced by, Dr. Sapna S, HoD and Dr Jayadevan S Nair, Dean who encouraged first years to take part in research as well as emphasized on the importance of doing research. Thus the research workshop concluded and it was followed by the primer session. The primer began with a detailed talk about the working and functioning of the committee by Convenors Rajveer Gurdatta, and Ann Clara Tomy. The session was concluded by circulation of feedback forms to receive constructive suggestions and ideas from the student body.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dr . Sangeetha Sriram is an Assistant Professor and the Head i/c of the Department of Law, School of Legal Studies, Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur. She is one of the founding faculties of theLegal Department of the University. She was the university gold-medalist at the under-graduation level and possesses a Masters degree in Human Rights Law. She is one of the youngest scholars to gain her doctorate from the National Law School of India University 2018 for her research in the Right to Self Determination and its relationship with the Prohibition on the Use of Force. She was previously with the School of Excellence in Law, Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, where she was teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. A fan of mooting and MOOCs, she has attended tens of national and international conferences and workshops, and has been invited as a resource person to several programmes. She has also judged over 20 moots across the globe and coaches moot teams as well. She has several publications to her credit as well. She specializes in Public International Law, Constitutional Law, and Human Rights Law, and her interests of research include Reproductive Rights, Gender Justice, Personal Autonomy, Organ and Tissue Donation, amongst others.
